A good way to start is by stating your objective. A good objective will demonstrate that you have clarity of career direction. One way to do that is by naming your intended job (the position you are applying for). Also, if you include qualities that are most important to the employer, it will create a big impact. An example of how to do this is: "Objective - a reporter's position in an organization, seeking an extraordinary record of uncovering new stories and delivering high-quality writing." This will convince him that you want to do exactly what the company desires and are likely to succeed at it.
Include any internships or summer jobs that you have worked at. This is an important section that most employers tend to look at.
Please stick to those that are considered important in a professional environment. Mention qualities like being a team player, problem solver, someone who can come up with out-of-the-box solutions for stuff, etc.
A resume is the means to get an interview call and not the job. So, remember that you do not have to write your life history. Highlight important points only about yourself that would entice the employer to call you for an interview. The rest of the details can be given after you get a call.
